There is no public facility in New Orleans dedicated to skateboarding & rollerskating. The crisis of childhood obesity is prevalent in New Orleans and the underserved 83,000 youth in the area will be served by having a facility in City Park, which is centrally located. Children who are skating in the streets & abondoned werehouses will have a safe place to skate. Recent studies show a strong correlation between athletic activities & student acheivement. As New Orleans has placed within the bottom 5 of student scores access to a public facility is crucial. Skateboarding is the 3rd most popular sport in the U.S. roller skating is the fastest growing sport. City Park has over 11million visitors per year and the addition of a skatepark & rollerskating facility of 50,000 square will be utilized.
